For all the things we do with our hands without thinking. Unlocking a phone, taking out a travel card, searching for keys at the bottom of a bag, holding a cup or signing something: all these gestures require you to remove a glove, but not a mitten.
The difference is immediately apparent in use. Mittens cover the palm, the back of the hand and the wrist—where the cold is felt first—while leaving the fingertips free. On a terrace, they allow you to hold a cup without exposing your hands; in the street, you can reply to a message without removing anything.
The plain Lurra mittens are the simplest choice. A single shade, a smooth knit and an accessory that works with any outfit: black, dark grey or sand for an understated look; burgundy, pale pink or electric blue for a touch of colour.
The two-tone Zubi mittens combine two complementary shades: sand and beige, dark grey and pale pink, pale pink and burgundy, yellow and navy blue, or green and blue. They make more of a statement and, above all, feature the same colours as our reversible Mendia beanie and Otxoa snood. The beanie, snood and mittens can therefore create a perfectly coordinated—or deliberately mismatched—set.
This is often what determines the choice: plain mittens for everyday wear, or two-tone mittens if you like your accessories to echo one another.
Mittens are no longer purely practical: they are designed to be seen. The most contemporary way to wear them is to let them extend beyond a slightly pushed-up sleeve, revealing a band of colour between the coat and the hand.
When it comes to style, colour blocking is taking precedence over patterns. While decorative mittens often feature jacquard designs or faux-fur trims, our two-tone styles embrace simplicity: two clean blocks of colour with a chic, easy-to-wear look.
Neutral shades—black, grey, beige or brown—remain the easiest to coordinate. Pale pink, burgundy and electric blue bring a touch of colour to a dark winter outfit.
Merino wool offers an enduring balance. Soft against the wrist, even on sensitive skin, it withstands friction and remains comfortable when moving between a heated room and the cold outdoors. Our mittens are made from 100% merino wool and knitted in our workshops in France, without acrylic or cotton: a simple product that remains warm and soft season after season.
With gloves, you need to measure the circumference of your palm with a tape measure and select a precise size. Our mittens come in one size, made possible by the knit itself: supple and flexible, it stretches to follow the shape of the hand before returning to its original size, without ever feeling tight.
They suit both slender and broader hands, while leaving room for a ring or delicate bracelet without creating pressure points.
Mittens become dirty more quickly than a beanie, particularly around the palm. Do not machine-wash or hand-wash them. Treat each stain individually by first blotting it with absorbent paper, then rubbing it gently with a natural sponge dipped in lukewarm water and a little soap.
Leave them to dry flat, reshaping the wrist carefully and keeping them away from radiators and direct sunlight. To remove loose fibres, lightly dampen the palm of your hand and rub the knit in circular motions: the fibres and dust will gather into small balls that are easy to remove. Out of season, place a few cedar balls in the drawer. For further information, consult our care guide.
