Choosing a beanie comes down to two things: the material and the colour.
When it comes to material, merino wool remains the benchmark: dense and warm, it retains its shape and works with any wardrobe. Our felted cashmere beanie, the Habia, takes softness even further, creating a beanie so comfortable that you forget you are wearing it.
When it comes to colour, black, grey or navy blue goes with everything and can be worn without a second thought. Red, yellow or electric blue becomes the focal point between a dark coat and a scarf. Many of our customers own both and alternate according to the day.
If this is your first beanie, the merino wool Boret is a reliable choice. The cashmere Habia is the one to treat yourself to—or give as a gift.
Colour comes first. A beanie can become the vivid accent in a neutral outfit: pink, red or yellow against a camel or navy blue coat. Conversely, a tonal look—a beige beanie with a beige coat or burgundy with burgundy—creates a chic, considered silhouette.
Then comes the shape. Beret-inspired designs are increasingly appealing: our Urbasa beanie can be worn upright like a beanie or tilted like a beret, a nod to our millinery heritage. The reversible Mendia allows you to change your mood without changing accessories.
Merino wool and cashmere glide over the hair without creating the static associated with synthetic knits. It is the first difference you notice when taking off your beanie.
The rest comes down to how you wear it. Positioned higher on the head rather than pulled down, the beanie preserves volume at the roots. Leave a few strands loose at the front and the result remains natural once the beanie comes off. A low ponytail or low bun fits underneath without creating a bump.
A merino wool or cashmere beanie should not be machine-washed or hand-washed. Treat stains locally: blot with absorbent paper, then clean gently using a soft brush or a natural sponge dampened with lukewarm soapy water.
Leave it to dry flat in the open air, away from direct light and all sources of heat. For cashmere, place paper inside the beanie to help it retain its shape while drying.
For everyday care, a lint roller removes dust and loose fibres. On cashmere, dry shampoo between cleans refreshes the material. Out of season, store your beanies in a moth-resistant cover or with cedar balls. Full details can be found in our care guide.
Our colours are coordinated across different product families. A women’s beanie, a snood and a pair of mittens can be matched exactly. This works particularly well with an understated outfit, where the coordinated set becomes the colour accent. Two matching pieces and a third in a contrasting shade create a livelier result.
Our beanies are unisex: the same shape and the same knit as our men’s beanies, with only the colour influencing the overall look. You can also explore our wool scarves and our complete collection of beanies.
