Men's snoods

Merino wool snoods knitted in France

A snood is an accessory in its own right. A colour, a knit and a choice between pulling it up or allowing it to fall across the shoulders. Our men’s snoods are knitted from merino wool in our workshops in Béarn. Plain or reversible and available in one size, they form part of our collection of snoods and neck warmers. A dense knit that protects the throat and neck, without any synthetic fibres. Two designs: one reversible, the other created for the coldest temperatures.

Frequently asked questions

Snood, neck warmer or neck gaiter: what is the difference?

There is no difference: these are three names for the same thing—a closed loop scarf that slips over the head instead of being tied.

What changes from one design to another is the height and density of the knit. A high snood can be pulled over the chin or nose to protect the lower face. A shorter design sits around the collar and remains discreet beneath a coat. Both of our men’s snoods come in one size.

What is the best men’s snood for very cold weather?

Our plain Argia snood provides the greatest protection. Knitted in a generous fabric, it covers the throat and neck—the two areas where the cold first sets in when you remain outdoors for a long time. It is available in colours including black, dark grey, Laulhère blue, botanical green, burgundy and red.

Pulled up to the nose, it shields the face from the wind, making a real difference when cycling or walking into a headwind. Lowered across the shoulders, it becomes discreet beneath the collar of a coat.

The reversible Otxoa snood is more versatile: two shades, two looks and a knit suited to both between seasons and winter.

Which style of men’s snood should you choose?

A plain snood remains the easiest to wear: black or dark grey beneath a wool coat, or blue with a peacoat or denim jacket.

A reversible snood offers two interpretations: the darker side for the working week and the lighter side for the weekend. Patterned, jacquard and marl snoods have their enthusiasts; we have chosen solid blocks of colour, which are easier to pair with a patterned jumper or checked shirt.

In terms of silhouette, a snood is an excellent alternative to a scarf when worn with a high-collared jacket or puffer coat: no loose ends and no knot to come undone.

Does merino wool feel itchy around the neck?

No, which is precisely why we use it here. Its very fine fibres do not irritate the skin: the knit remains comfortable against the throat and neck, even with a few days’ beard growth.

It is also breathable. Keeping your snood on when you go indoors does not immediately make you feel too warm, whereas fleece or acrylic knits can quickly cause perspiration.

Knitted in our workshops without synthetic fibres, it retains its shape season after season. Regular brushing is usually enough; for everything else, follow our care advice.

What size men’s snood should you choose?

Every wool snood in the collection comes in one size. The knit is designed to fit over a head circumference of 55 to 60 cm before falling comfortably around the neck without feeling tight. There are no buttons or adjustable cords: the elasticity of the knit provides the fit.

Over a roll-neck jumper or thick knit, the snood sits comfortably without constricting.
