Four designs, offering four ways to wear French knitwear.
Every piece is made in France and available in one size.
Merino wool is our signature material. Its fibres are much finer than those of conventional wool, making it soft against the forehead without itching. It is also thermoregulating: it absorbs moisture before you feel it, helping to prevent your head from feeling clammy indoors. This is why you can continue wearing a wool beanie after stepping inside, whereas acrylic knitwear insulates without regulating temperature or moisture.
Cashmere goes even further in terms of softness and lightness. At the same level of warmth, the material is finer, more fluid and more enveloping. Our cashmere design is knitted and then felted, using a process mastered by very few workshops. Felting makes the knit denser and gives it a structure that knitting alone cannot achieve. The result is a substantial, almost sculptural material that retains its shape instead of stretching.
Both merino wool and cashmere are worked in our workshops, and both produce a warm beanie. The difference lies in the feel and fineness of the material, not its performance: a well-made merino wool beanie is just as warm as a cashmere one.
It is a beanie knitted in two colours, with both sides fully finished and designed to be worn. Turn it inside out according to your outfit or mood, and you have two beanies in one.
Technically, this is far from simple: there is no reverse side, so no seam or thread can be left visible. Even our rivet is reversible, lacquered and laser-engraved on both sides.
This is the design chosen by those who cannot decide between two colours—and the easiest one to give as a gift: two options are better than one guess.
Three silhouettes return every winter. The docker-style beanie, worn short and folded above the ears, remains the most popular. The long beanie, which falls towards the back, creates a more streetwear-inspired look. Between the two, hybrid shapes halfway between a beanie and a beret are becoming increasingly popular.
On the same design, adjusting the cuff is enough to move from one style to another. Folded once, it structures and shortens the line to create the docker look. Unfolded, it adds volume at the back for a more relaxed appearance. The Urbasa embraces the hybrid style: the signature of a milliner, created by a Maison that has been making berets since 1840.
Pom-pom beanies, sailor beanies and oversized designs all have their followers. Our beanies focus on clean lines, allowing the colour and material to define the style, whether classic or more contemporary.
Three criteria, in this order: the material, the structure and the size.
The material determines the level of warmth and softness. The structure depends on the density of the knit: when closely knitted, it returns to its original shape after every wear; when loose, it eventually stretches. Our beanies come in one size and are made from a supple knit, allowing them to adapt to every head circumference without feeling tight. If in doubt, our size guide provides the necessary guidance.
How you wear it will also depend on your beard, glasses or hairstyle. Our men’s and women’s selections include advice tailored to each.
Yes—and they were designed with this in mind. Several of our designs share the same colours across different product families: a beanie, a snood and a pair of mittens for women or men can be coordinated in exactly the same shades and knit.
This is the combination most often given during the festive season, and the easiest to put together yourself. Each piece can, of course, also be worn on its own, just like our wool scarves. A beanie is not chosen simply to keep warm: it is often the only accessory visible throughout the winter.
