A simple rule can help you choose: opt for Lurra if your mittens need to go with everything, or Zubi if you already wear a colourful beanie or snood. Every design comes in one size.
Whenever you need to use your fingers.
On a bicycle, first of all, where grip on the handlebars and access to the brakes matter more than full coverage. A thick glove reduces sensitivity, whereas a mitten preserves it while protecting the back of the hand from the wind—the real source of heat loss when cycling.
On public transport, they allow you to use a phone, badge or travel card without having to juggle your gloves at every stage of the journey.
And outdoors, whenever you need to handle something: a key, tool, strap or lead. They are the compromise chosen by those who spend time outside but cannot remove their gloves every five minutes.
Yes, because the cold does not set in where you might expect. It first reaches the palm, the back of the hand and the wrist, where the skin is thin and blood circulation lies close to the surface. The wrist is the most critical area, as the blood supplying the entire hand passes through it.
Our mittens cover precisely these three areas. The fingers quickly warm up again when folded into the palm. This is why well-fitting men’s mittens are often warmer than you might imagine.
For very cold weather or long periods spent outdoors without moving, gloves or full mittens remain more suitable. Wool mittens are designed for the city, commuting and activities that require the use of your hands.
Leather blocks the wind but does not breathe and is mainly used for gloves. Synthetic fibres such as acrylic or polyester provide inexpensive insulation but retain perspiration: your hands become clammy when you go indoors, then feel cold again when you step back outside.
Merino wool avoids both of these drawbacks. Its fibres are much finer than those of conventional wool, so they do not irritate the wrist, which remains in constant contact with the knit. It also regulates moisture: the hand remains dry and therefore warm as you move between indoors and outdoors.
Our mittens are made from pure merino wool, without a fleece lining or blended fibres. The knit retains its structure instead of stretching around the wrist, where cheaper mittens eventually begin to gape.
Yes. The supple knit stretches to follow the shape of the hand before returning to its original form, without feeling tight around the wrist.
This is the advantage of a knitted design over a cut-and-sewn glove, which requires you to measure the circumference of your palm and select a precise size. Here, a broader hand has the room it needs without permanently distorting the mitten.
Our mittens are unisex: the same designs feature in our women’s mittens selection, with only the colour influencing the overall look. For a complete set, pair them with a wool snood.
