There is no right way, only different effects.
Everything begins with the line of the forehead. Leave it uncovered and the eyes appear more open while the face looks longer. Pull the beret down towards the eyebrows and the look becomes more enclosed and graphic. Only a few centimetres separate the two, but they determine the entire effect.
The same logic applies to the rest of the positioning. Worn high, the beret reveals the nape of the neck and works well with high collars. Set lower, it can visually shorten a longer face. If you wear glasses, leave some space between the frames and the edge of the beret. Otherwise, the two lines overlap and can make the features appear harsher.
The beret also has the advantage of leaving the face completely unobstructed. It pairs particularly well with statement earrings or a scarf tied around the neck. There is only one thing to avoid: building up too much volume. A wide crown and a thick scarf compete for the same space.
This is the criterion most often overlooked, yet it can change everything.
With long or loose hair, a close-fitting crown avoids adding volume where there is already plenty. The beret follows the line of the head and allows the hair to provide the rest. With short, tied-back or pinned-up hair, a wider crown adds volume and balances the silhouette.
If you have a fringe, set the beret slightly towards the back to leave it visible. With curly hair, work with its natural volume and choose a supple shape that settles around the curls without flattening them.
French merino wool, cashmere, cotton, linen and leather: each of the collection’s five materials has its own drape, and the season often determines which one to choose. Colour follows a different logic.
Colour is not chosen according to a set of rules. A black beret will accompany you everywhere, while a red one can transform an entire outfit. These are two different ways of wearing a beret, not two different levels of quality.
There is plenty of room between the two:
Then there are shimmering and embellished berets, which make no attempt to remain understated.
Finally comes the question we are asked most often in store: which beret colour works with which hair colour? There is no rule, but there is one useful principle. A beret that contrasts with the hair makes it stand out, while one from the same colour family creates a softer effect:
Whatever the colour, caring for the beret remains the same: wool felt should be cleaned when dry and never placed in a washing machine.
The crown volume creates the first impression. A standard crown gives the beret a classic, easy-to-wear line, while a more generous crown allows greater freedom to play with volume and movement. Traditional designs, including the Basque beret, therefore sit alongside creations with bolder shapes.
Materials and finishes add another dimension. Choose a solid colour for a beret that blends naturally with an outfit, or leather, lurex, a veil or patches for a piece designed to stand out. Our fashion berets explore this more expressive territory, while our timeless berets favour essential lines and easy-to-wear colours.
The beret is one of those rare pieces that moves through the seasons without ever truly disappearing. Classic or bold, its character changes according to its volume, its details and, above all, the person wearing it.
You can also discover and try on our berets in store, including at our Paris address at 14-16 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. It is the best way to compare different crown volumes and find the right size.
Depending on the design, our berets are available in an adjustable one-size fit or in several sizes. This information appears on every product page, together with the material and price.
Buying directly from the manufacturer changes two things. First, traceability: every beret comes from the same workshop, so we know exactly which wool went into it. Then comes personal advice. For an accessory chosen as much for its volume and colour as for its size, informed guidance is often more useful than a technical specification. This is also why our store exists.
